We provide a full spectrum of ecological services, from initial desk-based assessments through to multi-year monitoring programmes. Each service is delivered by appropriately qualified and licensed ecologists, ensuring compliance with current legislation and best practice guidelines.
Preliminary Ecological Appraisal
The essential first step for most development projects. Combines a desk study of existing records with an extended Phase 1 habitat survey to identify ecological constraints and opportunities. Determines whether further species-specific surveys are required.
Bat Survey Package
Comprehensive bat assessment including preliminary roost appraisal, emergence and re-entry surveys, and activity transects. All work conducted by Natural England licensed surveyors using calibrated acoustic monitoring equipment.
Great Crested Newt Assessment
Population assessment using eDNA sampling and, where necessary, traditional survey methods including torch surveys, bottle trapping, and egg searches. Includes Habitat Suitability Index scoring for all waterbodies within 250 metres.
Biodiversity Net Gain Calculation
Full assessment using the statutory DEFRA biodiversity metric. Includes baseline habitat mapping, condition assessment, and post-development scenario modelling. We identify the most cost-effective routes to achieving mandatory uplift targets.
Habitat Management Plan
Detailed long-term management prescriptions for retained and created habitats. Covers maintenance schedules, monitoring requirements, and adaptive management triggers. Suitable for planning conditions and biodiversity net gain delivery.
Ecological Impact Assessment
Comprehensive evaluation of development impacts on ecological receptors, following CIEEM guidelines. Includes cumulative impact assessment, mitigation hierarchy application, and residual effect determination for EIA submissions.
Additional Species Surveys
Beyond our core services, we offer specialist surveys for a wide range of protected and notable species. Survey timings are constrained by seasonal factors, so early consultation is advisable to avoid delays to project programmes.
Breeding Bird Survey
Territory mapping surveys following BTO Common Bird Census methodology. Typically requires three to four visits between April and June.
Dormouse Survey
Nest tube deployment and monitoring programme, typically running May to November. Includes hazel structure assessment and habitat connectivity evaluation.
Badger Survey
Sett survey and territory assessment including bait marking where required. Covers licensing requirements for sett disturbance or closure.
Reptile Survey
Presence/absence and population assessment using artificial refugia. Minimum seven survey visits required during the active season.
Uncertain Which Surveys You Need?
A preliminary ecological appraisal will identify the survey requirements specific to your site and project. We can then provide a tailored quotation for the full scope of work.
